Time to vote on what appears to be a rather touchy subject among some opponauts and jalops! What kinda gearbox do you drive? Stick, slushbox, CVT, DCT?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
What gearbox do you all prefer to use?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
What gearbox do you all wish you had right now?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
How many gears do you have in your gearbox?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
How many gears in your ideal gearbox?
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Drop a comment below with your current car(s), what type of gearbox it has, and if you like it or not or if you'd rather be driving something else.

You're going to want to do a repost for the evening Oppo- mid-afternoon posts aren't that viewed.

Do I just change the time on the post? Or do I simply just post it a second time?

I DD a manual, and I prefer manuals. I'm definitely weird for wanting a seven speed manual transmission though, thanks OPPO.

Post it a second time- I think.
And I'm not terribly sure how reposting's done, so sorry I can't help. Wish I knew how to Kinja properly...

I'm gonna start DDing a six speed manual next month. My first manual, should be fun!

Dct because perfect rev match every time.

What model vehicle? My first DD was a 6MT Jetta GLI, although now I have a 5 speed.
You'll love it if you're anything like me. Makes driving fun and not a chore. It'll take a few days until you can drive without stalling, but after a few weeks it's muscle memory.

Mine doesn't have gears? CVT FTW.
I'm assuming you mean dailies, though. The LeMon is a manual since that's a bit more fun to drive. I'll hoon the CVT Lancer all day, every day, but I kind of need an extra challenge, y'know?

Actually, I won't know until March!

'14 Focus ST1!
I wanted to find a used '12-13 GTI or GLI but my dad wouldn't let me get an un-American car. :p

I've thought about getting one of those for a while, they're awesome little hatchbacks. Literally the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger is the FWD, otherwise they're pretty much perfect. Even then they're tempting.

What about a Golf R? If you could find one...
![]() 02/11/2014 at 15:19 |

Not sure how a Focus DCT compares, but I'll assume that the BMW is better.

I didn't know I had to Kinja? How does one Kinja? Am I doing that now? :p

I've found a few good examples fairly close to me to be honest, but at that point for the money I'd rather just throw common sense to the wind and get an honest sports car or even spend a few grand more and get an e90 m3. If the Golf R was 5 grand less I think it'd be perfect, but it gets too far into "used dream car" money territory for me.
Lots of other ways to spend 33k I guess, when you're just getting an AWD hatchback with 260hp, and although it's a more superficial concern it just looks like any old Golf to me. I could get a C6, or an M3, GTO, Lotus, etc. I'm bad at viewing cars in terms of practicality and since I might see snow two or three times a year the AWD isn't a huge selling point. As far as almost new cars are concerned though, the Golf R is pretty much perfect on paper though, I just can't rationalize it over buying pre-loved.

There are definitely pros and cons to buying pre-owned, but you can always go find one being sold privately instead of searching dealers.
If I was going on looks, I'd rather find a C2 Hardtop or a C5. For practical reasons, I'd probably take an FR-S, an SS or an M4. I like having two doors.

Haven't driven a focus with dct but I have driven a beetle with dct and it sucked. Porsches/BMW's is a million times better.

I'm not entirely sure how a DCT is suppose to feel, but the Focus felt good to me; much better than my current regular 4spd auto.

Ok so apparently changing the time via editing allowed to pop back up at the top of the main page again hours after I originally posted this. Not sure if I'm suppose to do that but it's easier than actually re-posting.

MOD POST:
please do not update time of your time after it's been originally posted unless there's new information.
thanks,

Q. What do I drive?
A. Stick/Manual/Standard/Tree Pedals and a Stick/Row Your Own; I currently DD an 06 Mustang.
Q. What gearbox do I prefer to use?
A. Manual/Standard/You Get The Idea; because I believe it creates better drivers and that's my fundamental "Why" behind my pro-stick stance.
Q. What gearbox do I wish I had right now?
A. A manual DCT; because that'd mean I'd have the car I'd like to have in place of or alongside the Mustang now that the wife and I are parents and that car has four doors, maybe a hatch, and isn't FWD but it's fun and practical - because grown up.
Q. How many gears do I have my my gearbox?
A. Five; I wish it was six, but I own an '06 and that's pre-facelift (rhyme?).
Q. How many gears in my ideal gearbox?
A. I said seven, but I could easily do six though the reason for seven is that it goes with my grown up DCT chosen above in that there should be good gearing for getting around corners and leaving the line but also a tall gear for cruising at one fifty five. (uh...)
This was a great poll.

Glad you liked it. That means I'll continue to do these 'PollTimes' weekly! If not, daily if I can find the time. Not sure when the most people are on but I'm sure this'll spread around. Also you get the award for most detailed answer here! Have a reward:
A cool Mustang pic I just found :p

Oh wait now I see it. Sorry about that. Someone recommended that I re-post this later in the evening from when I originally posted it so that more people would see it. I wasn't sure if I should update the time or actually post the entire thread a second time. I had no intentions to cause any trouble if I did... :(

So close and yet so far.
Here's my pony.
Also, what I tend to do is, when I post a worthwhile subject and I want as much Oppo response as possible, re-share your own post during the various shifts, ie, morning, afternoon, evening and the night crowd.
The Oppo sticker thread, I shared and reshared that many times over three days to try and get as many Oppo sticker having Opponauts as possible.
Tactics.

Oppo sticker? what is that, if you don't mind me asking.
And you've got yourself a beautiful Mustang! :)

Fiestocus ST?
I mean Fociesta ST?

given the options you've given me, I think the right answer is Fociesta ST!

How do you like it?
And out of curiosity, do you have a family to haul around in it?
![]() 02/12/2014 at 01:09 |
|
Well I actually haven't driven it yet, I'm getting it in March. and I'm only 18 so there's no real family to speak of besides my parents. I currently DD an '08 Astra and I'm gonna miss it when it goes.
Maybe you can help me with a dilemma. I can't decide between getting blue or black. Which would you get and why? what pros and cons do you see with each color?
![]() 02/12/2014 at 01:16 |
|
My answer is and always will be simple; black.
Almost every car I've owned, that is to say, spent real money on, was black. My current car is black. Why black? Because it "works" the best. It's serious, black can be deep and beautiful but it's not an affront to the eyes like some colors can be nor, mind you, is it beige or boring. The problem with black, however, is that it wears dirt loudly and will make a display of any dings, nicks or scratches you might have. Black isn't easy, but it is, in my opinion, the best. Furthermore, it's the best of the good-for-resale-value colors with only white being of any interest to me in that swathe of boring, dull colors.
For me, the answer is always black and when I spec out new cars online, they're always black. When I'm looking at used cars, black is what catches my eye. Black is also one of two things; either invisible or obvious to cops. I'd say it's about an 80/20 split with the numbers favoring invisible but the real issue is that when you do get pulled over, it's not going to help.
They say that once you go black, you'll never go back and, in this case, it's pretty true.
Black.

What if I give you these two pictures of the colors?

And Blacky was his FOOOOOCus.

How does one keep a black car shiny clean if the car is left outside?

I know how to rev match downshift, just there's now way in hell I'll do it every time I shift. And that's quite often in the m3 to bring it into it's power curve. Manual has it's place in some cars with me, but dct is the future and I accept it. (Flame suit on)
